Slavonian grebe singles summer plumaged bird offshore on 6th, 12th and 13th 
Black necked grebe

summer plumaged bird reported offshore on the 29th.

Bittern

2 birds present in the reedbed all month with booming recorded throughout.

Pink footed goose 21 feeding on the grazing meadow on 1st, 13 roosting on the fresh marsh and 130 west on the 3rd.
White fronted goose

1st winter on reedbed pool on 3rd

Barnacle goose 1 flew in/off sea and SW over reserve on 16th
Dark bellied brent goose

a reduction of numbers throughout the month with peaks of 197 on 7th falling to 110 on the 27th

Black brant

adult still present with brent flock until the 10th

Wigeon

pair still present on 24th  

Teal

peaks of 53 and 52 on the 6th and 7th  

Pintail

7 still present on fresh marsh on 7th      

Red crested pochard pair on fresh marsh 23rd-25th with the drake only29th and 30th
Tufted duck

17 on the 7th was a good reserve record

Eider

14 offshore on 10th 

Common scoter

following a poor winter, numbers increased towards the month end with 400 on the 28th and 1000 on the 30th   

  
Velvet scoter 13 west on 22nd          
Red breasted merganser 30 offshore on 10th
Red Kite

1 west over reserve @ 10:20 on the 2nd      

    
Marsh harrier

3 pairs nesting in the reedbed  

Hen harrier

ringtail (probable immature male) present daily over the reedbed with marsh harriers until the 21st.  Brief ‘skydancing’ was noted on the 9th 

Common buzzard

singles over on 6th, 8th, 11th, 20th, 23rd and 27th with 2’s on 4th and 9th

Osprey 1 west over reserve @ 14:05 on the 20th with it or another SE @ 15:15 the next day.
Merlin

singles on the 4th, 8th, 14th and 30th

Peregrine 2 on the 9th
Common crane 5 west @ 11:55 on the 2nd
Avocet

peaks of 132 on the 22nd and 118 on the 6th 

Little ringed plover singles on the 11th and 24th 
Sanderling

143 roosting at Thornham Point on the 7th

Purple sandpiper

single bird roosting on the beach ruin on the 19th and 20th 

Woodcock 2 birds on the brackish marsh on 3rd
Spotted redshank

peak of 20 on the fresh marsh on the 6th  

Greenshank singles on the 11th, 16th and 26th -29th. 
Turnstone 161 at high tide on the 7th  
Great skua 1 offshore on 20th
Herring gull 627 on the 7th 
Sandwich tern 1st of the year of 2 on the 13th   
Common tern

1st birds of the year on the 18th

Arctic tern

single on 30th

Little tern 6 on the 26th with 15 present offshore on the 28th
Black tern 1 on the 30th
Wood pidgeon 207 west in 2hrs on the 3rd, 141 west in 2hrs on the 25th
Turtle dove 3 west on the 24th, 2 on the Meadow Trail on the 23rd and a singing male by the Fen Hide 25th – 28th
Cuckoo 1st of the year on the 23rd
Tawny owl 1 calling in willow scrub near Fen Hide on the 14th
Swift 1st record of the year on the 23rd with 20 on the 28th
Sand martin 100 west on the 4th 
House martin 1st of the year on the 9th
Tree pipit 2 west on the 22nd, single west on 24th
Yellow wagtail 1st record of the year on the 4th
Grey wagtail 1 in carpark on the 2nd and 4th
Stonechat a fall on the 9th produced 24 birds around the reserve
Wheatear 1 on the 20th was over a month since 1st record of the year and was the start of a small passage with 5 on the 25th
Ring ouzel  west on the 27th
Fieldfare 10 late birds over the reserve on the 11th
Blackcap singles on 17th and 30th.
Cetti's warbler 7 singing males recorded in the reedbed
Firecrest 2 in the carpark area until 10th
Coal tit single on 4th
Tree sparrow single bird in the carpark on the 11th
Brambling peak of 10 birds around the feeders on the 6th with the last bird recorded on the 25th
Lesser redpoll

14 on the 11th

Bullfinch single female on 26th
Yellowhammer single on 11th
Corn bunting

1 west on 4th
