RSPB Titchwell. Our favourite reserve for migrants, waders, ducks and geese, bacon sandwiches and the big hide. Meet in the car park TF750436. Bring lunch or use the Feeding Station.

Rutland Water, Leics.& Rutland WT/Anglian Water. A bit further afield today and a large area to cover. Lots of bird hides and various trails. Meet at Egleton Birdwatching Centre, OS map 141, SK866676. Bring lunch or eat in cafe. Entrance fee to reserve.

Heacham South Beach. A morning walk along Heacham Harbour and beach for wildfowl and winter waders. Meet at car park (limited facilities) TF663369. Afternoon at Abbey Farm, Flitcham, for geese, tree sparrow and little owl. TF737266. Bring lunch if staying all day.

RSPB Fen Drayton Lakes, Cambs. Part of the Hanson-RSPB Wetland Project on the outskirts of Cambridge, with extensive gravel pits for wildfowl, waders etc. Bring lunch, but  note there are no hides or facilities here. Meet in car park TL339691. Access is off A14, J28, or from Swavesey.

RSPB Buckenham & Cantley Marshes. Part of the RSPB Mid-Yare Valley reserves and a good place for ducks and geese, including bean. Corvid roost worth a look at dusk. Meet at Buckenham railway station car park TG351057. Facilities at nearby RSPB Strumpshaw Fen.

Dawn Chorus at NWT Foulden Common. It really is worth getting up so early! Meet at the small pull-off on the road out of Oxborough TF764000.

SWT Lackford Lakes, Suffolk.
Former gravel pits, now a nature reserve of wetland, woodland, scrub and heath. Visitor centre and nine hides to explore. Bittern and kingfisher regular sightings, possible nightingale and little ringed plover. Bring lunch, or facilities in centre. OS Explorer 229, grid ref. 798705.
